Wondering how things came to be in the world of Neural Net? Read on for a breakdown of major events.

– an asteroid strikes Saturn hard, the debris from the impact combining with the disrupted gravitational fields keeping the asteroid rings in orbit, sending waves of mass destruction on a collision course with Earth.

– the Earth Defence Agency (EDA), an independent organization formed jointly by the leaders of most of the world’s major governments, begins efforts to construct a defense network in LEO.

– a limited network of large cannons, meant to break down larger fragments of Saturn and asteroids has finished its first phase of construction. strikes break out at the orbital launch facilities as workers revolt against significant loss of life from overwork and hazards during the construction.

– a branch of the EDA dedicated to researching medications to help workers stay alert and focused during long hours finds its first success, and immediately releases it to their workers.

– despite the best combined efforts of the EDA and cooperating governments, most of the first wave overwhelms the EDA’s defenses while its phase two construction is still underway. many of the world’s continents are subjected to massive tidal waves, although those deemed important or wealthy enough were moved into underground bunkers in advance. nations unlucky enough to be on a direct path with any of the debris ceased to exist, the tidal waves filling in their giant craters. the world’s population was reduced to 1/3rd of its former glory.

– all lines of communication destroyed, relief efforts
